What areMDGs?
About the Millennium Development Goals
At the 2000 UN Millennium Summit, world leaders from rich and poor countries alike committed themselves -- at the highest political level -- to a set of eight time-bound targets that, when achieved, will end extreme poverty worldwide by 2015. Eradicating poverty worldwide can be achieved only through a global partnership for development. For poor countries to achieve the first seven goals, it is absolutely critical that wealthier countries deliver on their end of the bargain -- more and more effective aid, more sustainable debt relief and fairer trade rules -- well in advance of 2015. Our Challenge
Our challenge as students is to become agents of change now, in our campus communities by educating ourselves and others about the situations around the world, as we live in DC by lobbying our congressmen, as we are choosing our summer breaks, as we are living in a community of other young people.
About MDG Pages
Each Millennium Development Goal Page can be used as a resource to educate yourself on the latest news and happenings regarding the issue, student groups that you can get involved with at your campus and national networks that can connect your campus chapters to united message.
National/Local DC Resources and Groups
This heading is useful for identifying and learning about national
networking groups that have chapters at one or more schools in the DC area. When you
see a network that looks interesting to join, you can often contact a chapter that is a
campus near here. Then you can communicate with a leader who knows what you will be
going through, and can tell you about how their group works on campus. Having multiple
chapters in the DC area, and coordinating our actions is a great way to ensure that our
collective actions are seen.
