Millennium Campaign

The Our Generation Our Responsibility Conference is made possible by a generous grant from the Millennium Campaign. This conference fulfills the Millennium Campaign's key activity: Encouraging United States citizen support for the Millennium Development Goals, while helping to forge new partnerships among and between UN agencies, the private sector and NGOs in order to build support for the UN and its efforts while also enhancing the effectiveness of service delivery.

Americans For Informed Democracy

Americans for Informed Democracy (AID) is a non-partisan 501(c)(3) organization that fosters global understanding by coordinating town hall meetings, hosting leadership retreats and publishing opinion pieces and reports. AID seeks to inspire a new generation of internationalist leaders and to promote America's image in the world.

AID is helping with a workshop that will teach their method of running a town hall meeting. This workshop will help our students learn how to plan an educational event that is designed to reach out to a diverse audience in order to introduce them to topics of the group's choice.

AID will have a table promoting their mission to conference attendees.

Global Justice

Young people have the unique capacity to reach across false boundaries of nationality, race and economic status to affirm our common humanity and work toward a shared vision. By uniting the creative energy and courage of young people with the knowledge and expertise of academia and professionals, Global Justice (GJ) empowers youth and students to be informed activists. Global Justice works to promote greater cooperation within the broader student advocacy movement for global justice, seeking to unite a fragmented movement of like-minded individuals into a more cohesive whole, better able to mobilize resources to create change. This involves organizing concrete, cross-organization, advocacy efforts, but also acting as a venue for promoting informed advocacy through trainings and support for infrastructural development.

GJ Staff is playing a supportive role in organizing and speaking at two workshops: The Child Survival workshop and the media strategies workshop. They have also opened their office space during September as a centrally located base for conference planning meetings.

GJ will be hosting a table at our event to spread the news about their two daughter campaigns, Student Global AIDS Campaign and Student Campaign for Child Survival.

Georgetown University

"The challenge of enabling us to fuse horizons is a central challenge of the academy. And at this moment, to enable us to fuse the horizons of those who are the beneficiaries of the global market and those who are not is the moral challenge of our lifetimes."

-- President John J. DeGioia
Conference on Religions and Cultures: The Courage to Forge a New Spiritual Humanism, September 2004

Social justice is a hallmark of Georgetown University's Catholic and Jesuit identity and its approach to educating the whole person. Following a discussion with UN Secretary General Kofi Annan at the 2004 World Economic Forum, President DeGioia began a conversation about a university contribution, through teaching, research, and the exercise of institutional agency, to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals.

This conference offers a chance for the University to invest in a student approach to educate about the Millennium Development Goals.

Georgetown University Student Association

Georgetown University Student Association (GUSA), as the elected voice of the student body, is responsible for working with administrators to achieve positive goals for student life. Whether by working with housing or dining hall policies, increasing awareness of athletics or the arts, ensuring student health or safety, or any number of other issues, GUSA is working to achieve students’ collective goals and promote a strong and vibrant university for past, present, and future Hoyas.

"Our Moment" is one of GUSA's three main initiatives. Our Moment will focus on ways to highlight Hoyas’ community service and awareness-raising activities that benefit people locally and around the world. This conference is acting as a main starting point for "Our Moment" at Georgetown University.
